About us

HOPLAND BAND OF POMO INDIANS

The Hopland Band of Pomo Indians have occupied our aboriginal lands of Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake Counties for hundreds of years. We originally thrived on the natural surroundings of the Sanel Valley that was rich in deer, salmon, trout, acorns and berries.

The Sho-Ka-Wah Casino opened in August of 1998 with 308 slot machines, had an expansion of a 250 seat bingo hall, and has since expanded to a total of over 550 slot machines, 6 table games, 3 poker tables, two food venues, and a full service Sports Bar.

Over the course of the past eight years, the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians has succeeded in providing financial assistance and services to many organizations, building a stronger support system for our members (including health benefits, educational assistance, housing and social services) and upgrading infrastructure for schools and libraries.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Long before gaming was an option for Native Americans, the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians made strides to improve our economic situation for tribal members and the local community.

The consolidated tribal health project was formed to address health issues within tribal communities. Today the local community benefits by serving at large with out-patient and in-home health care for thousands in mendocino county.

The Northern Circle Indian Housing Authority (NCIHA) is a combined effort amongst several local tribes who work to improve the living conditions of tribal members. The NCIHA currently manages 2000 homes in mendocino and surrounding counties.

The Hopland Band of Pomo Indians values the stability of our local economy. As our personal contribution, we regularly provide support to our local community including sponsorships, contributions, and donations. Some of the organizations include:
